In Bândua, UNFPA installs tents for women in vulnerable situations

calendar_today 25 April 2019

Bândua - On Wednesday (24 April), the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) visited the accommodation center of Bândua, 350 km from the city of Beira, for the installation of three tents that will support activities related to reproductive health and family planning. The team also distributed 300 dignity kits (with hygiene and protection items for women and girls).

About 2,300 people (340 families) who had their houses destroyed by Cyclone Idai, which hit Mozambique on March 14 are sheltered in this center. Of these three tents installed with the help of Brazilian firefighters, one will be used to establish a 'Women-Friendly Space' and the other two will serve the Bândua Health Center in Buzi district, one of the districts most affected by the tropical storm.

The visit was accompanied by the technicians of the Provincial Directorate of Gender, Child and Social Action, UNFPA's partner in the respond to cyclone Idai.
