The United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Mozambique is supporting the Ministry of Interior to develop a digital platform, InfoViolencia, for registration, management, and control of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) cases. In the long term, the system will allow referral of survivors to other institutions doing case management, such as health facilities, justice, and centers of integrated social support. EPOP Survey Consultoria e Serviços developed this software during the last 8 months in strong collaboration with the Ministry of Interior and UNFPA.
“UNFPA is happy to start this pre-pilot phase. After several months of intense work, we will be able to assess the efficacy of this digital tool. Many of us are born before computers. However, we all have to embrace technology and take advantage of all the benefits it is bringing to our everyday lives.” Emidio Sebastiao, Adolescent and Youth Programme Analyst, UNFPA.
Today, the pre-pilot phase started with the training of police officers from three police stations in Maputo and Matola. During this phase, representatives of the police force will learn to fill out the form for registration of GBV cases, and use the platform InfoViolencia to insert the data from the forms. The pre-pilot will run during May and will serve to assess the performance, functionality, usability, and efficacy of the platform, to be able to make improvements and later on expand its use to the whole country.
“Mozambique needs a more effective system to register and follow cases of violence. With this innovation, we will be able to have a reliable system to collect data on gender-based violence and to ensure survivors get the right follow-up according to their needs” Joaquim Nhampoca, Ministry of Interior.
