Eligibility criteria
Minimum age: 22 years old. Applicants must be nationals of or legal residents in the country of assignment.
Description of task
Within the delegated authority and under the supervision of the M&E advisor or his/her designated mandated representative(s), the UN Volunteer Innovation Specialist will:
Support the country office (CO) at central and provincial level for the identification, development and implementation of innovative products and services.
Support the Country Office in development and implementation of new data collection methods and real time monitoring systems and analysis by using technology, such as geo-referenced data or satellite imagery to map and address inequalities within the context of UNFPA programmes
Think creatively about best fitting technology for each project, understanding currently available technology and trends, to develop effective solutions
Provide technical support on existing innovation projects launched by UNFPA with a focus on testing, learning and refining
Coordinate the involvement of adolescents and young people and other relevant stakeholders in the assessment of existing projects using human-centred design approaches
Provide research, monitoring and evaluation and knowledge management support regarding existing innovative initiatives to promote learning and continuous improvement
Support Country Offices and Regional Offices in scanning/mapping the ecosystem to identify potential partners and/or existing solutions outside of UNFPA that can help accelerate the achievement of our mandate.
Interact with the local youth community; networking and building relationships with local organizations, groups or individuals
Qualifications/Requirements
Required degree level: Bachelor degree or equivalent
Education - Additional Comments:
Academic: Tertiary education with qualifications in development, human rights, statistics, data/computer science, Information Technology, design, project management or a related field
Essential: 2 years of relevant experience
Required experience: 24 Months
Experience remark:
Demonstrated interest and dedication to development issues in areas of UNFPA’s mandate through either volunteer experience, work experience, or youth network affiliations
Ability to identify and propose innovative solutions to problems and/or the ability to apply different data methods to solve an identified research question of interest
Professional experience preferably with expertise in the area of adolescents sexual and reproductive health and rights, as well as youth and gender
Demonstrated, or clear idea of, delivery of UNFPA’s mandate in an innovative way
Ability to identify and propose innovative solutions to problems and/or the ability to apply different data methods to solve an identified research question of interest
Exposure to topics such as data privacy, security and ethics is an asset
Experience working with the mHealth/eHealth community is an asset
Language skills:
English(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Portuguese(Mandatory), Level - Fluent
Area of expertise: Other information and telecommunications technology experience, Other health related experience
